  • Great job in putting this together John!!!!!!
  • You're killing me. I was planning on going to the race but changed my plans last minute... wishing I had made it after seeing these photos ;(
  • Thanks Devon but Fred Fry and Will of Tugster.com deserve the credit for bringing this to my attention and photographing it (respectively).
  • Hey, great photos, but need a special race for us pushboat's. Like the mighty Gold Coast, and where was a Dann tug, like the Ivory, I know she can run !Send me your photo's I'm building a photo album to view whan I retire , thats right retire still 5 years off but I can see the light @ the end of the Hawser !
  • Race for pushboat's eh? I'd like to see that.
  • Thanks for the photos. They meant the world to me. My son died in New York Harbor 10/15/05 on the Davis Sea, while doing what he loved most. His passion and love of the industry and water will live on forever, for K-Sea named a tug after him. The NathanE Stewart came in 3rd and to watch this on the you-tube and hearing someone shout his name while the final three came through the finish line was almost more than my heart could bear. I know the crew of the Nathan E Stewart was there for him. I only hope he was able to watch. If anyone knew him please email me. I always love to hear Nate stories.

  • Mary; So sorry to hear about your son, but at least he did'nt loose his life on the hiway to a drunk driver or on the streets to a drug dealer. He was doing something he loved with a bunch of his close friends, in an accident and part of his spirit will sail on forever there with his old tug and crew. I'm certain he was there in the thick of it God bless him hope I'll be able to be there also some day. I didn't know him but I'm a tugboater also for the last 26 years, and I understand ! God bless you also drop me a line anytime you want to talk I'm here! Capt. Jim D. Tug Gold Coast Chesapeake Bay.
  • Great photos; I didn't realize that tugboat races had been resurected --- I'm old enough to remember the ones in the '50's that included railroad tugs and dozens of companies. I'd love to see photos from those games. I have a few tugboat photos photos but none of the races.
  • Hello just found this site ,
I was a tug capt. for over 40 yrs , mostly for dredging companys on the east coast, but meanly in newyork I stated on a wooden tug , the CHARLE F BICKEL, that belonged to Jamica Bay Towing. It wasbought by a guy by the name of BART BRAKE who is nolonger with us. thats it for now, like to hear from some of the old seadogs
  • Bill, Thanks for your comment and be sure to check out our forums where the old seadogs all live!
  • In the week following 9/11, I visited, I believe, the official FDNY homepage and found there a picture that moved me, someone who had lived in NYC for over 20 years but had by then moved away: the photo depicted the deck of a tugboat heading toward lower Manhattan, in the early morning fog, the twin towers dominating the skyline in the distance...
I recently returned to the site, but could not find the picture. Is there a chance you can locate the picture or the photographer for me?
