A clarificaton please-
For vessels transiting the Panama canal I thought that the pilot was in full command and the captain relieved of his respnsibilities.
Is this a fact /

Larry, good point and I do believe that is in fact the case.. but only for the canal. I'll double check though.

Yes. In the Panama Canal the pilot has full responsibility for the vessel, legal and otherwise.

Just to add, the pilots for the Kiel Canal in Germany also take full responsibilty of the vessel.
