Good article. Even if mariners don't care about he fate of Capt Cota or the crew of the Cosco Busan consider that this case is being closely watched overseas. How can we expect the crew of an American ship to be treated after an incident in a foreign port?

JSE - Good point, imagine if a U.S. citizen had been accidentally shot from a foreign ship in a U.S. port. Hopefully the crew and owners of that ship would be treated fairly and justly.

The rush to criminalise seafarers (and demonise those who don't happen to be American) unfortunately gets in the way of the sort of examination of the systems failures that need to be fixed.
