Does the coating void the manufacturers warranty? IE. If youhad to do a warranty exhange for a defective device.

Michael, the only post titled "review" only posts links and video provided by 3rd parties, not commentary by gCaptain.

Unfortunately we are not journalists and do not have degree's in Journalistic Practices. We are mariners who work on ships, our expertise is the sea.

As mariners we live by the mariner's creed "One hand for you and one for the ship". If we can save lives we do, without thinking of the economic impact to the company that pays our salary. To this point gCaptain, or any of our bloggers, has not received any monetary compensation from Golden Shellback and does not have any contract in place. Do we hope this changes in the future? Yes. Are the other blogs aware of our relationship? Yes.

The bottom line is this technology is going to save lives and we want to help promote it.

I will update the FAQ with a brief explanation on the relationship and move these comments to a more appropriate place on this blog.

Could you update the FAQ on these pages to explain you and your blog's relationship to Golden Shellback? I think this would make things much more clear for people who are analysing the claims made about the process.

Haha. I know what 'exclusive' means. The point I am making is that gcaptain.com is not only claiming an 'exclusive' but also claiming to have 'reviews', but you're not making it very clear that anything you say should be considered in the light of the fact that you are their media contact as well.

Did you make this fact clear to Tekzilla and Gizmodo? Do they know that the blog they are linking to when they made their announcements is affiliated with the supplier? It's not just a blog linking to another blog, is it. You are acting as a mouthpiece.

Have you made clear whether you have any investment or stake in this technology, or whether you are receiving any payment you are receiving for being the 'media contact'?

If I was being told about a great new camera, I would not much trust an 'exclusive', or a 'hands-on review', from a publication affiliated with the supplier. Would you?

Michael, why do you think they gave me the exclusive? Maybe because we designed and built the on line services for NMI?

I understand your concerns which is one reason we facilitated demonstrations with tekzilla, CNET and gizmodo shortly after posting. Prior to that the video was an exclusive.

As far as pressure goes, what I was trying to ask is would it survive the depth of a 3ft pool, 4ft etc.

What about thermal problems?

1. Does the process coat the exterior shell, thereby creating an essentially air-tight seal? Or does it coat the insides, the electronics which would be effected by the water?

2. If its the latter, How does the coating effect the thermal dissipation of something like a heat-sink in a laptop?

What is the nature of this coating? Is it ceramic, polymer, or other?

I also have an observation:
The coating should work on cameras to almost any reasonable depth because the coating goes directly on the components could flow into all the air spaces of the camera thus eliminating low pressure areas that can be crushed. Unfortunately the optics would be all wrong because the camera lenses don't compensate for the higher refractive index of water.

It doesn't protect against the pressures experienced at depth.

The coating uses ideas learned from the manufacturing of semi-conductors so it's bonding at the molecular level. Speakers and touch screens are seemingly unaffected. The contacts need to be masked, either by coating the device with plugs attached or applying tape.

How does this work with charging etc? Are small metal connectors left uncovered to allow electricity to pass?

Also, how does this work with speakers, ie the paper cone?
