Not that the unions are bad, just there is some merit in getting some experience first.

I should have said the "players don't change" because, you're right, many of the names have changed.

Re: Go Sail A Rust Bucket – 10 Reasons Why

I've been ashore for 10 years now, but last time I sailed Matson 3/M jobs were only available off the board at MM&P, so joining a union was the only option to get one. Has that changed???

And who says the names don't change? Polar Tankers was ARCO Marine when I graduated! :)

Re: Go Sail A Rust Bucket – 10 Reasons Why

No but it WILL get you time and a half towards your union book :)

Re: Go Sail A Rust Bucket – 10 Reasons Why

YES BUT the Asphalt Commander aint ever gonna get you laid!

Re: Go Sail A Rust Bucket – 10 Reasons Why

I'm glad you included number 6. Nothing is more dangerous than a master who has only sailed on one type of vessel. Competence does require a broad range of experience and should be a prerequisite for the job.

Re: Go Sail A Rust Bucket – 10 Reasons Why

"No 6 is missing." like I said.... all is not lost for the academically (or numerically) challenged ;)

Fixed

Re: Go Sail A Rust Bucket – 10 Reasons Why

“What do you call the last member of the graduating class?
