  If they really want to do this, then it should fire SOLAS approved flares.
  
  I think you are better off getting a waterproof VHF radio and personal strobe first.

  This could be one of those bright ideas that turns out not quite so bright. That type of switch is hard to make watertight and projecting like that is not good design for vessel mounting. May not quite be the AIDD we are looking for. I agree with Fred Fry's comment but I particularly like Pachino's!!

  Seems to me that automatically launching flares might not always be the brightest idea. What if you were on a product tanker that broke in half and has left a slick of jet fuel over the water? I guess there's some situations where flares might not go over so hot (or maybe it would depending on how you look at it).
